Baking Cart

I Love to bake . . . actually we both love to bake (ever seen a 6 foot 8 inch weight lifter bake a cake?? FYI it's super sexy ;). haha

I saw these Raskog rolling carts from Ikea and I couldn't resist. I originally picked it up for our bathroom, but it wouldn't fit into the spot I was thinking of. I drove myself, and I'm sure Lee, crazy trying to think of another place we could use it. I came up with, what I thought, was a great idea but only if I had a pantry and I don't.
But I thought I would photograph it and explain it for all of you lucky people who have pantries, before I returned the cart.

I thought about making a Baking Cart. You could keep it in your pantry with all of your baking supplies, and roll it out when you're ready to bake.
I love it!!! Everything you need at your fingertips. I've always had a baking cupboard (in fact I have a new post coming up on our NEW and Improved baking cupboard) but a baking cupboard is definitely second to a baking cart! All the ingredients are easily within reach, there is no running back to the pantry for something you forgot. And the cart is so darn cute!
I popped the spatulas and wooden spoons on the top, as well as our large jars of flour and sugar. I would also keep our measuring cups and measuring spoons up there!
On the second shelf I stored our glass jars of things like powdered sugar, brown sugar, graham cracker crumbs, and ground almonds.
Lastly, on the third shelf I stored our dried fruits and nuts, as well as chocolate chips!
I don't know if I'll ever have a home with a large pantry but if I do . . . you'll see this baking cart in it!

I hope all you lucky ladies with pantries can find this post useful! For the rest of us I'll have a post up this week of my new organized baking cupboard!

  4. Ha...see Elie beat me to it! Yes, we were just eyeing (drooling) over those yesterday. Both of us wanted them for our new craft rooms, and I thought it would be perfect for Katie's new room or bathroom at school next year.

  5. That's so cute... don't you have a corner or lil area it can set out in? I wouldn't want to hide it away in a pantry!! :)

  6. So genius. I bought the same cart in Grey and have it in my office holding overflow stuff. However, your use of it is so functional. I might just have to copy this.

  10. I LOVVVE this! I do have a walk-in pantry but don't have a close Ikea! However, the next time we make a trip to visit family (who does have one near by) I'm looking for this. Don't think I ever would have thought of this and always wanted a baking 'area' but in my kitchen that just won't work so this is awesome. Thank you for the idea. (And I LOVE that color.)

  13. I love this cart as well and am thinking where I could put it... a baking cart is a good idea, but like you, we don't have a pantry. Whenever I read about North Americans and baking I notice that you use those measuring cups and -spoons while we here in Europe weigh all the ingredients on scales ...
    Have a nice day,
    Jule

  18. I bought this at IKEA as an impulse purchase a few months back. It's been shuffled around the house for various purposes because I can't figure out what to do with it. But I love it so! I must find a place. And, my dear, I think you've helped me with the solution. Thanks mucho.

  19. I love that stinking cart!!! I try to buy every time I'm at Ikea, when it's in stock anyway. But I just can't think of a single place to use it!!!

  20. You're returning it? Maybe you can use it in your guest room to hold towels, an extra blanket and some essentials that guests sometimes forget. Maybe it can hold cans of paint in your garage. Maybe it can hold gardening supplies in your shed. Oh man, I'm trying to talk you into keeping it, and I may be talking myself into getting one, LOL. Hmm, it would be perfect to hold our families bicycle helmets out in our garage!

  21. I love this cart in the kitchen it was made to be there! Your kitchenware looks really pretty and organised, I dont think mine would look so pretty in the midst of me baking up a storm - flour everywhere, ingredients everywhere, it's a mess when I bake!

  22. I, too, don't have a walk-in pantry, but I love your idea of a baking cart. It's true that it would come in handy to have all of your ingredients easily available when taking on a baking project.

I could see this cart working outside for drinks, snacks, or even plants! I love the color. I would definitely use it in my craft room, as it is the room in my life that needs the most organizational love.

  23. Very cute! I have a definite storage problem in my kitchen and, big surprise, no pantry. I've seen these curt carts at Target and always wanted one, never thinking I could use it as a baking cart! I'm thinking I may be able to slide it under my breakfast bar. It'll open up an entire cabinet. Thanks for the inspiration!

  24. This is so sweet! I wish I had the space for it in our kitchen!

  25. My daughter bought that same one for her bedroom ...she stores her Laptop, books etc on it...so cute!

  26. I bought this cart a few months ago, intending to use it to keep all my sewing supplies handy. It didn't work out that way and I haven't been able to decide what to do with it. I like the idea someone had about using it in the laundry room, maybe I will try that. But for now the girls use it to wheel the cat around the house and play veterinarian :)

Also, for anyone that wants the cart but does not live close enough to an IKEA, I purchased it on their website. Shipping was only $10, but I don't know if the shipping rates go up depending on your zip code!

  27. What a creative, functional and fashionable idea! I don't have a lot of storage in my kitchen; this could be the perfect solution. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  28. I just bought this too! I'm using it on our patio to store our kids' toys. It's great because the toys are often wet and the shelf bottoms are open so water can drain out. If I baked, though, I'd use it like yours!
