Dining Room Rug

I finally broke down and did it . . . I ordered a rug for the dining room.
It took us a long time to take the plunge, the first year we were here I wasn't sure we needed a rug in the dining room. The second year we were here I couldn't find one. Okay . . . . we couldn't find one in our price range.
Then the stars aligned and we found this fabulous round, jute rug on Overstock.com It is perfect! It fits the shape of the room, and the size of the table. Our table is BIG, so a 6 foot round rug wouldn't do . . . we needed an 8 foot round rug! But again we had a 6 foot budget!
I've been following this rug for a while . . . like a bit of a rug stalker! I saw it go from $249, down to $234 at which point I bought it (put it in my online cart and everything) but because they didn't accept paypal, I put it off. Then I saw it drop to $174 and freaked out!!!! We said when we got back (we were visiting my parents at the time) we would buy it. When we got home it had dropped in price again, down to $157. There was no waiting . . . it was on like Donkey Kong!
The icing on the cake was that overstock was also offering free shipping for first time customers. And when I saw the Promo Code box, I was on the HUNT! I found a coupon code for another discount of 12%! Total Cost . . . . $138.59!!!! Timing is EVERYTHING!
So what do you think?
It fabulous right?? I Know! ;)
It's actually a lot softer than I thought it would be! I kind of expected it to be rough but it's not at all.
I love the texture it adds! To me, it give the room some life!
I AM IN LOVE! It anchors the table, breaks up all the repetition of the wood floors and generally warms things up a bit!
I think what surprised me the most was how a few changes in the dining room have made such a huge difference! A new Barn Door, some new artwork and now a rug and it just seems so polished compared to how it looked a year ago!
I hope you like it as much as we do! And if you're looking for the perfect piece to make your room come together don't worry . . . . maybe you'll fall ass backwards in to an awesome deal like I did. :) haha

Pop back later today and check out how much Max loves our new rug!  That's right it's a two post kind of day!!!

  2. I love the rug. We looked at a similar one for our kitchen. We have a table similar to yours in there. But, a 6 foot is too small and an 8 foot too big because of doorways in close proximity to the table! UGH!!! So, no rug so far.

  3. I have that rug in the 6 foot from overstock...it was $99. I love mine. I scotch guarded mine (I have 4 kids) and it's reversible too! It makes your room without being too much!

  4. Where did you get the table? I need a table that is 60" wide and that has been a challenge to find.

    1. It's an old hand me down from my parents! When they moved they couldn't fit it in their tiny kitchen so we took it!!
I believe it was from a big box generic furniture store like The Brick, or Leon's. Nothing too special. But we love it!
Here's the post we did on it!! :

  5. I love your new rug! I have been on the hunt for one that looks just like it but rectangular 10x13. I haven't had much luck because they are too expensive for my budget. Maybe I'll stalk overstock.com too! All your changes are really cute. I love them all!

    1. So far this has been our only Overstock purchase, but I definitely wouldn't hesitate to use them again! The product is exactly what they said it would be and shipping came right when they said it would! Super easy!!!
I would definitely reccomend them! :)

  10. OMGosh!!! You sure do find the bargains. Love the rug. Your dining room looked great without the rug. But the rug has really brought the entire room together. It looks even better than before. Very polished.

    1. Whenever I see a promo code or coupon code box at checkout I do a quick internet search for codes. I almost always find something, I save an average of $10 to $15. The one I used was fro the month of August! But . . .
Here's a list of current overstock coupon codes :) Some are better than 12% :)

  13. I ordered the rectangle version of that Jute rug and am in love with it! With two big dogs and a messy husband, it is holding up very nicely! I also jumped on the opportunity when they were running the rug promo! So nice to get a discount :)

  23. Your dining room looks so beautiful! I love the rug!!! What diameter is your table? And what would be your suggestion of what size rug to get with "x" size table? Perhaps you can do a post on that....I always have the hardest time knowing what size rug to get for the dining room or living room, etc. I'd love to hear your input on how to calculate which size rug to get to obtain that "polished" look. Thanks!

  24. Love the rug and the texture and it warms up the place.....I've just bought a rug for my lounge room (no photos on the blog yet) but it makes me do the happy dance too.

  25. I have enjoyed your blog. Lots of great ideas!

However, recently there is TOO much unnecessary swearing.

    Can't stay.

  26. Love the rug but its really the bird/tree prints that you had before that really get me going! Where are they in the house now? They are stunning! Love the rug and barn door etc etc etc

  27. Just a small piece of advice...we have the same rug from overstock and although it is a great rug and I love it, you need to have a rug stay underneath it or it will ruin your wood floors. Over time the jute scratches the floor and leaves permanent marks in the same pattern as the rug. I learned the hard way and will eventually have to refinish the floors because of it. Otherwise, the rug is a beautiful and a great dirt catcher.

    1. Hi Carissa!
We found them on Craigslist. But I've also seen them at Target Online, and Homegoods. Our prints were originally from Urban Barn.
      Hope the helps a bit!

  29. Hi Ashli!
I am just getting caught up on posts - did you have overstock ship the rug to the US? I have found so many things that I like on their site, but with the cost of shipping, duties, taxes, etc. to Canada, it just isn't worth it. I got excited when you said you used the free shipping for first time customers, but it would seem that just works for the US??
Thanks so much - the room looks amazing!

    1. Hi Fizzy,
Yes I have them ship the rug to the US, then drive across the border and pick it up. As long as it's under $200 then there is no duty.
      Hope that helps a bit,
I agree the shipping to Canada is VERY overpriced.

    1. Hi Senna,
We don't have any bird prints in the dining room but we have 4 on other walls in our home. Let me know which one you're inquiring about an I can let you know where it's from!!
