Kitchen Organization: Pantry Cabinet

It feels so good to be moving through my Kitchen Organization To Do list:
This weekend I checked off Organize Lower Pantry Cabinet.
Lee installed some pullout wire baskets for me. I found them at Lowes for less than $15 each. The reason I had to have them was because they go all the way to the back of the cabinet, and have full extension so they can pull all the way out of the cabinet!

Before Lee put them in we were only using half of cabinet depth, now we can use all of it, definitely worth $30.

We also installed a little plastic, tiered Rubbermaid shelf. I don't think it's possible to have too many canned goods on hand so we needed another way to store them. The shelf does just that!

Only a few more projects and the kitchen will be officially organized!

  2. You, without a doubt, have the most organized real life kitchen that I've seen. It looks like an organizing magazine photo!

  3. Love the addition of the pull outs!! Makes better use of space. I love the list you made...I think I need to start making lists so I don't get sidetracked.

  4. Your organization makes me almost giddy with excitement! hahah! I definitely need to work on our cabinets where food is stored. The shelves in our cabinets are super short, so it's hard to organize. I really need some of those pull outs!

  6. What are the plastic containers with the flour and pasta? Will they hold 5 pounds of sugar or flour?

    1. Hi Kellie,
The plastic containers are from Ikea, they are food safe and BPA free. They definitely won't hold 5lbs of sugar or flour!
I'd say about half of that!!
      Hope that helps

  8. That is a great basket! But are there both potatoes and onions in there? You may not have problem if you eat them up fast enough: but I've read that storing them together will cause them to spoil each other.

  10. Wow, once again you have done a great job over one small area i didnt think could get better. How do you find such perfect fitting hardware do you go to all the stores with all the measurements on you at all time? How do you always manage to find what you need???

    1. Thanks Steph,
I kind of have an idea if something will fit or not, for the pots and pans organizer it was really big so I went home and measured first, but for something like the two wire baskets in this post I just knew they'd fit. It also helps that our cabinets are made from Big Box cabinets so they are all standard size and depth!
As far as always finding what I need, I shop a lot. I should say I Window Shop a lot. I'm on tons of websites and in tons of stores looking for well priced organizing tools!!

  12. I can't believe you scored those for $30! What a buy...I have seen them for far more at Lowes before. The shelf looks beautiful and way to make use of the total depth.

  13. LOVE those pull out racks. Thought I wanted to stalk some for myself until I realized that I don't really have lower pantry shelves. Hmmm...how did I not catch that earlier? Maybe one day when we have a regular sized island.

    Always love your organizing finds.

  14. I often lurk without saying anything, but I came out of my dark hole to say I love the sliding racks! Taking stuff out of cabinets to reach what's in the back is one of those little everyday pains. I was thinking about waiting for a full kitchen redo (the house was about 15 old when we bought it, so I figured it'd happen sooner rather than later... silly me) to get full pull-outs, but something like this may be a life savior until then!

One thing caught my eye when salivating at your... ahem, I mean, looking at your sliding racks, and I thought I mentioned it. I was always told that keeping onions and potatoes together was a bad idea. Do you have a separate place where you keep larger batches and use this "at hand" location for small quantities that get consumed quickly?

    1. I shop every Monday and Friday, and I only buy as many onions and potatoes as I need for the week. Onions and Potatoes will spoil each other faster if they are kept together, but it's never been an issue for us as we eat them too fast for them to spoil. If i ever find myself buying potatoes and onions in bulk I will definitely have to figure out a new system for storing them!!
Thanks so much for the comment!

  16. Our pantry cabinets need to be organized regularly to ensure that all the stuff that we need are there. These insights that you shared in doing these are very inspiring. A lot of homeowners will surely find this task easier with these tips. Thanks for sharing.

  18. May I say that I am a little envious of your cabinets? Mine are a pain. I have basic builder grade (meaning cheap with no options) in our home. My cabinets have the center vertical divider between the doors. What a pain that is. Also the shelf in the base cabinets only goes half way. It doesn't come all the way to the front. I have been straightening and reorganizing (kids don't always put things back where they belong when you make them do the dishes). I am tired of fighting with my pots, bakeware, etc. getting them out of such a small opening.
