Powder Room Reveal

We've finially finished with our changes to the powder room, just in time for Christmas. I wanted to make sure this room had some wow to it. I figure almost everyone who visits our house will visit this room at some point so I wanted it to be pretty! I thought about a fabulous bold wallpaper, but Lee said . . . "absolutely not!" I have no idea what it is about men and hating wallpaper? But they all do!!
So we went with Martha Stewart's Rainwater.

We had a big blank wall right when you walk in so we needed some art work, but because it's a small room I didn't want to overwhelm it with a HUGE picture, I thought small 4 x 6 photos with HUGE white mats was the way to go.

I Love little pictures with HUGE mats (if your like us and don't have the budget for huge custom mats, use white poster board and cut it to size using an exacto knife, we matted all three for $3, compared to $33 each for custom mats).

Photos are little postcards from Ikea ($5).

We added a new light, not a  typical choice for a bathroom but we used a track light. I wanted something simple and modern,

and I loved the little shades!

Some special touches, the towel ring:

A towel bar (I like a great big towel in the powder room for guests to wipe their hands on, there's nothing worse then trying to dry your hands on a small damp hand towel at a house party).

And last, a pretty soap dispenser (from Target), I like to keep my soap pump on a little porcelain tray, so that any spilt soap gets caught in the tray and doesn't sit on our granite counters waiting to be absorbed.

There's our new little powder room.

And because I've been trying to add some more perspective shots, here's a picture of how it looks from the hallway!

  3. Gorgeous!! I love the color, and it was on my list for my kids' Jack & Jill bathroom that is in dire need of painting! I love the pictures too - small photos with big mats is a fave of mine too. Just stunning.

  4. Please explain your crown moulding to me - it looks as though it doesn't touch the ceiling? Is it the photos, or is there a gap there? If so, what is in it? It looks super-fancy!

  7. Your bath looks great!! Love it all. I'm stealing your track light idea when I replace my light fixtures in my bath! They look so nice and sleek, not like big clunky normal bathroom lights!

  9. I hope your soap dispenser holds up well for you. I bought 2 of those exact same ones (one in blue and one in white) for our bathroom and kitchen. The spout on one of them crapped out before a year was up and the other one is getting terribly corroded and is on its way out soon as well. It's such a shame too . . . I just fell in love with their simple look.

  17. Dang girl! I can never hang a picture straight, and you have put several of them in a row (all straight). You've got some skill. I've got some skill envy.

  20. Sorry I have no idea where the vanity and mirror are from, it's what we picked from the builder, I do have a sneeky suspicion it comes from Home Depot.
I've seen lots of very pretty vanities out there, for powder rooms I like the vanity to have little legs, kind of like a piece of furniture :)
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful,
    Lots of Love

  21. My Honest Answer,
Your right the crown doesn't go all the way to the top, we had the builder drop it down a bit and install lighting behind it, so now during parties we just turn the lights in the crown on and in the vanity we have lights too!
I'll pop up a post about it tomorrow afternoon!!!
I totally forgot to talk about that . . . thanks for the reminder

  22. Do you recall where you purchased your little porcelain tray? We just put a marble counter top in our bathroom and I love the idea of putting the soap dispenser on the tray.

  24. I was just about to get on here and mention the problems that I had with the spout of that same soap dispenser then I saw skooks comment. I have had mine since summer and I noticed it started to disintegrate about a month ago. I keep wiping the tip off but I really need to get a new one. I was hoping to find a new pump part at like a garden center but I haven't had any luck. I will probably keep the bottle and just try and find a nice looking top for it.

  26. Thank you for this post! I've been looking for a powder room inspiration! Love the arrangement of the photo's (I might have to copy your idea)! Very pretty powder room!

  27. Love the idea for track lighting. I never like the big bulky lights that are in so many bathrooms. When we re-do our bathrooms I'll look into that. I also have 3 of those soap dispensers....one for each bathroom.....and they are holding up well.

  28. Scrapbookone- The little tray came from Homesense, But I've also seen them on amazon and at target.
I usually find them in the dishware department! I have one for the soap, one for the dog dishes, and some for the seasonings beside the stove.
    Hope that helps

  29. Looks very nice and the framed mats are beautiful...question though? why add a towel ring with no towel and put a large towel on the wall...people will think there is no towel to dry their hands on and will be scared to use the big towel since they will think it's for other purposes all while wondering why is there a bath towel in a bath less powder room. I'm sure your guests are given instructions before entering the powder room: "please use bath towel as hand towel, thanks!" Do you put a plastic trash bag in the trash can? you know, so folks don't stain it when they drop the toilet paper in there?

  30. Erikita,
We usually have a hand towel on the towel ring so that guests have a choice of using the hand towel or the larger towel.
There are no instructions on how to use the towels in the bathroom, people just assume that any towel in the bathroom is there for their use ? ? ?
I do put a small pastic bag in the powder room but I don't wrap it around the top of the trash bin! I just keep it tucked inside!

  31. You did a great job with the powder room...but one thing that stands out to me is that pretty little soap dispenser! I am on a never ending hunt for one that I actually like. I'll need to head over the border to target more often it seems. Great job.

  32. Great job with the bathroom! Where are your towel holders from? Ive been on a quest to find some that fit my powder room and these look perfect.

  33. Hi Heidi,
The towel holders are from Homesense (Homegoods). They have the best hardware there and it's really well priced. I think the brand is HOTEL collection or something like that.
    Hope that helps a bit
    Lots of love

  34. The bathroom looks great! How are you feeling about the paint color now that you've lived with it for a while? I found you blog by searching for pics of rooms using Martha Stewart's Rainwater. That is my current top color pick for my great room. What do you think?

    1. We're still LOVING it!!! It's such a natural blue, like a robin's egg, not like bubblegum! :)
I think I would be a bit more tentative to use it in a great room, if It was me I would do the same color but one shade lighter!
      Lots of Love
