New Library addition

I went to Ikea recently for something totally unrelated to what I walked out with. Because what I went for was kitchen containers . . . what I walked out with was a plant! Seriously I might be a crow, but instead of being attracted to shiny things I'm attracted to green leafy things . . . as well as shiny things ;).

So we have a new family member (sort of), and he wants to live in the library, because he needs more light then the living room can offer.
At first we had him up on the bookcase:

But still not enough light.

So we moved him too the coffee table, and he seems super happy there . . . but we're still in the honeymoon phase with him, so far so good.

I LOVE the white ceramic pot, with drainage tray built in! Regularly priced at $29.99 he would have been way out of our houseplant price range, but this little neglected soul was a little worse for wear and we got him for 50% off.

And because I've said . . . out loud . . . in public that I'm going to add more perspective shots, here's one from a different angle!

To me a house isn't a home without a plant and a pet.

  1. I like it!The white bowl also means if you want to change his location he is neutral enough to do so.

  5. You're right! The house could be empty and if you have a plant and pets it not only fills your house, but your heart as well!

  6. May I just say again, your home is just beautiful!!! Nice addition!!! I have plants all over, but not the live variety. Lots of silk plants. ;) I agree a house is empty without greenery and pets. I have 2 dogs, 1 cat (and at one time a hamster), 2 of 3 kids still at home, a hubby and a partridge in a pear tree. :) LOL

  7. I love it! And love the different room perspective too. We have a Pug named Tobe and two plants....hopefully we will build on that, the plants not the pets;)

  8. I love your library! I've been admiring your bookshelves for quite some time now, I admit :) Cute new plant addition. I absolutely love the last perspective photo you put up, it made me notice the great bird prints you have on your wall - love those!

  12. Ashli, do you know how to take care of these plants? I got the exact same one from IKEA in black at the end of August, and it's already nearly dead with just a few leaves left. I feel horrible but I don't know how to keep it happy!

  13. Hi Rika!!
We've had good luck with it! Ficus don't like super direct sun, but they do need light, close to a southern facing window works well.
And did you feed it??? Lots of people forget that plants need food too :) A little bit of fertilizer goes a long way :)
I hope that helps!!! Once I killed a plant because the window sill was too cold :) I couldn't understand why it was dying because it had lots of light :) hehe
