Guest Room Plan!

We don't have too many overnight visitors during the summer, the occasional inebriated friend might stay the night but I can promise they don't notice the decor. It's not until Christmas time that we get guests who might enjoy a well appointed guest room. So now that it's August (holy crap when did that happen btw) it's time to get started thinking about our guest room.

We have a queen sized bed in there now and not much else!
I want something bright and kind of funky! Since we won't be in there everyday, a little bold color won't bother me one bit!

~A big, bright, bold quilt is a necessity! Matched with some simple white organic sheets from Target!
~Some Funky wall art!
~The old dresser from the townhouse Master Bedroom
~I want a simple bed frame with no foot board (the foot board will make the room seem smaller) I've been loving Ikea's aspelund line, the little nightstands are too cute! Maybe we'll spray them a color? Maybe not?
~and for the curtains I'm hoping to "jazz" up a pair of plain white drapes.
~I'm thinking of painting the room "Sharkey Gray" from Martha Stewart's paints.

I also want to work a double function into the guest room. I need a place to store my scrapbook and crafting material, my sewing machine, my fabric, yarn and gift wrapping supplies, so that still needs to be figured out.
But here's our plan . . . what's that they say about the best laid plans ? ? ? . . . .

  1. Love it! Elizabeth has several pieces from the Aspelund collection and loves them. They have held up very well. And, the neutral color is awesome (not too stark a white with a hint of gray). Can't wait to see what you come up with.

  2. That's cool, I would love to be your visitor in that nice guest room. I like how you put your ideas together in those collages, that's what I also do, because it helps me decide what goes together and what doesn't. I'm just furnishing a second room for my daughter and I also used some IKEA products, because I really really like their stuff. I also like the quilt idea - will you make the quilt yourself?

  5. Do you use a special program to put together a design board like that? I love how you can put all your thoughts grouped together. I would like to do the same, but I don't know how. I would appreciate your advice!

The quilt is from Etsy, it's called Flutterby Baby Quilt!!
Sorry I don't have the exact store :(
I'm hoping to make one myself, the Flutterby Baby Quilt is just my inspiration.
I hope that helped a little

  10. Jule,
I will definitely be trying to make the quilt myself! I'm going to try and use up all the little scraps of fabric from around the house, I'm a little nervous about how it will turn out, but I'm taking the leap!! :)

  14. Loving your bright ideas and the room definately needs to be multifunctional with the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time you can use it for things you need and 20% of the time for those overnight guests. Can't wait for the reveal.

  15. My guest room also doubles as my craft storage area. I have a double closet with sliding doors and, with the exception of about 12" of hanging space I've left for guests, I've filled the rest of the closet with drawers and cubbies for my crafting, sewing and knitting stuff. And all my Martha Stewart magazines fill the overhead shelf. Functional and hidden!

  16. Saw this EARLY this morning but didn't have time to comment because my new BF was coming @ 7 am to pick me up and take me to Friday Harbor for the day!
Love your mood board! If I was doing it and actually used a big bold polka dot fabric to trim the white drapes (which I so would) I'd use the color of the background to paint the knobs on the dresser with a matching painted knob on the adorable aspelund nightstand door...but that's me...

I know I'll love whatever you do. ♥♥♥

  17. Perfect timing! We finally have a guest room and I'm trying to figure out what on earth to do with it before we have company around Christmas time. So far the only thing I know is I'm going with bright cheerful colors based on a quilt my grandmother made, I'm trying to use a LOT of what I already have (which isn't much) and I want it to be cheap! Should be easy, right?? Look forward to seeing what you come up with!

  23. Funny: I have guest room decor on the brain too and will posting about it (hopefully!) tonight :-) Your plans look fun, fresh, flirty and yes, funky!! If your closet is large enough, consider creating a desk and storage space in there for your crafting, sewing, etc. things... then you can just close the door and voila; it's a guest room again ;-)
