Living Room REVEAL!!!! . . . . finally :)

Lee: Finally we're done the living room!
Ashli: For Now
Lee: pardon ? ? ?
Ashli: Nothing ;) hehe

We hung the last star this weekend and now the living room is done . . . for now. Like any die hard decorator I can't say any room is really DONE! because something will always come up . . . always. So I'll just say that for now we are very happy with the way our Living Room turned out.
This room is what Lee and I would look like if our marriage was a room :) Sounds crazy, hear me out!
  • Lee is the giant couch. 109 inches of couch to be exact, with a big chaise coming off the side. I would be the smaller white slipcovered chairs in front of the window.
  • Lee would be the Large end tables (made from Ikea Meltorp consoles, tutorial to come) and I would be the  side tables beside the white chairs.
  • Lee's the dark black frames above the fireplace, and I'm the glass lamps on the side tables.
  • Lee's the WAY to big for the room T.V. (just say'in) and I'd be the white t.v. console underneath.
  • Lee's the dark hardwood floors, I'm the light carpet.
  • Lee's the coffee table and I'm the . . . . I just ran out of comparisons but you get the idea.
It's not too manly, and not too feminine and while it might not grace the cover of a magazine, it's so US!

A peek in to how my mind works:
I chose a white pillow for the couch to bring some of the white from the chairs to the couch.

I chose beige striped pillows for the chairs to bring the beige from the couch to the chairs.
 and
I chose to paint the stars on the mantel blue to match the color of the pillow on the couch.

Another explanation from my brain :) is the white ottoman, I really wanted a super casual, super comfy room to just kick back in. And you can't kick back with out putting your feet up. And our feet couldn't reach the coffee table from the chairs and so an Ottoman was necessary. I'm also Loving the extra storage it's giving us!

So in conclusion:
We love it now!
But never say never!

  2. I really can appreciate how you've managed to create a very cozy and inviting space with such tall ceilings and in a room next to the stairwell. These issues can sometimes cause a real issue, but not here. Love the drapes too. Enjoy!! Janell

  3. It looks so pretty & cozy. I love how you tied it together (how your mind works) and all the touches. It looks so clean and crisp, yet so soft and inviting. Love the Large Roman Numeral Clock and the collage of pictures over the fireplace along with the lights alongside. What a huge window with fabulous light. What a great living room...enjoy!

  13. Love it. It is always a compromise isn't it? In fact I am off to Ikea {in your neck of the woods} to get a console type desk so the computer can come downstairs into the family room! Hubby wants it downstairs so we can keep an eye on the kids! He finally said enough already -go get a desk!

Your room is so fabulous, inviting, warm, casual yet well put together. I can hear BH&G calling!

  21. So agree with the others that said this could easily grace the cover of a magazine AND would entice me to actually buy the magazine! Great job Ashli (and Lee). It so fresh, modern and classy, but looks very comfortable. Really, really lovely!!!!

  31. Your living room is lovely! Did you make your curtains, buy them, or have them custom made? I am asking because it looks like you have really high ceilings in your living room. So do I and I am trying to figure out how I can make ceiling to floor curtains with out having to spend a fortune on getting custom ones made. Thanks!

  32. Hi Amanda

I made the curtains out of 2 ikea panels :)

  37. I follow your blog in my googlereader and may have missed the post on the stars. Could you please tell where you got those from or maybe where I could find some. Thanks and I love your blog.

  38. Hi Jackie!
The Stars were from Jo-Ann fabric! But I've seen them at Homesense of Homegoods too!
They were black and I painted them RAINWATER from Martha Stewart (Home Depot) and after the paint dried I roughed them up with some sand paper!
    Hope that Helps

  39. hi there! i'm very interested in your Ikea Melltorp console table to end table tutorial! i've been looking for a long and narrow end table and this is perfect. is it as simple as taking a hack saw to the leg length or is it more involved than that? thank you!

  40. I love the living room as well. As Melissa said, compromise is the key. That's what we did when we were trying to renovate the living room. Well, I got most of the furniture that I want.

  41. Hello! I love this room and came back to it for inspiration :) Where did you get those white chairs? And how do you keep them nice and clean?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks Catherine,
I'm so glad you like it!!
The white chairs are from Ikea, they are their Jennylund chairs. And they stay white because they are slipcovered and totally washable!! I've washed of make-up, dirt, grease from the car and dog poop . . . yes dog poop and their still white! A little oxygen bleach works great too!
Don't dry them in the dryer!! Air dry and slap them on a little damp :)
    I hope that helps
    Lots of Love

  43. One of the focal points in your living room is the large windows, which allow natural light. The abundance of sunlight makes your living room feeling warm and bright.
