Ooops I did it again! The living room curtains part II

Okay, it's only been one quarter of a year since we moved in, but I have changed something that I've already tackled. The living room curtains.
I have two very good reasons for doing this:
1) We bought a console for the Television, that didn't exactly play nice with the floor length drapes on the left side.
and
2) I never really loved where the seam was on the old set. It had no rhyme or reason, it didn't match up with any of the window sills or anything.

So I cut my losses tried to re-use as much of the material as possible and make a new set!
The new set is a little more 'neutral' then the last, but I'm in LOVE with the super neutral palate we are creating in the living room.

I re-used the white RIVITA curtain panels from Ikea, and I added the RIVITA curtain panels in beige. I chose to use the same curtain panel in a different color so that the width was the same and all I would have to do would be to sew the two together :)
I chose to end the white fabric after the top set of windows, I thought this made the most sense. It gives it a reason and a natural point to change, something the last set were lacking.

As for reason number two:
We finally got around to purchasing a T.V. console. It was, to say the least, a bit difficult. We had to find a very LOW console, because I didn't want the T.V height to go above the mantel. We had to find one that was wider then the T.V. just because I think it looks funny when your t.v. is wider then the stand it's above. And it had to fit between the mantel and the wall (46 1/2").
But we found it all in Ikea's Smadal! It's 46 1/8" width was perfect! Although it did raise the problem of "where do the curtains go?" I like to say I had some great epiphany of what to do with the curtains but there really was only two choices. No curtains (no way!) or hem them to the console. I think it turned out pretty good!

Another recent purchase our Wall Mounted T.V. (oooooooo . . . . . aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh . . . . )haha
We needed the t.v. to swivel for a few different reasons.
1) A pretty major reason, you wouldn't be able to see it from the couch.
2) I like to watch cooking shows while I cook (it's a little weird) so I wanted to be able to see it from the kitchen.
and 3) it gives me a little bit of display room on the console :)

Ignore the big black computer staring at you, that will get taken care of soon, and also divert your eyes away from the t.v. wires, those will also get taken care of . . . soon!!! ( . . . I hope).

So there's our new t.v. stand, t.v. mount and living room curtains! I might have jumped the gun when I declared that the laundry room was the next room to be completed it just might be the living room.

My bet is living room, as most of those projects I can tackle myself and the laundry room, requires a level of expertise I just can't bring to the table :( So it will have to wait until Mr.Malinek is available!

  1. Looks great (of course!) I am going to be doing a similar curtain soon. Mine, however, is going to have a white "stripe" along the bottom. I hope to have a following tutorial!

  8. Nice job - what is the name / model of the tv bracket?

  9. Thanks Anonymous,
The T.v. bracket is from JYSK. It was only $99 it fits anywhere from a 30" tv to a 60" tv. It's a little stiff, if you need to move the tv around daily I would buy a more expensive model but if your like us and need it angled for 90% of the time and only move it once a month then this one is perfect! It all depends on what you need, no use spending $300 for a bracket that only gets used once in a blue moon :)
